Shaikh Mohammed Bin Duaij Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee (BPC), praised the tremendous efforts made by the Kingdom of Bahrain to combat the corona virus (Covid-19) and limit its spread.
This came during the 9th board meeting of the BPC chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa and in the presence of members of the board and executive management via online platform Zoom.
The BPC Chairman referred to the decisions of the Government Executive Committee chaired by His Royal Highness Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, on allowing indoor and outdoor training for professional athletes and national teams in accordance with set guidelines, and allowing local sports leagues to resume activities without spectators from mid-July.
The decisions taken were based on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and the recommendations of the National Medical Taskforce to Combat COVID-19. The BPC Chairman reiterated the BPC’s role in implementing all issued decisions in order to complement the national efforts to combat the corona virus and guarantee the health and safety of all. He also expressed his full support of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, National Security Adviser and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, to develop a plan for youth and sports in stages to secure the health and safety of all athletes in the Kingdom.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Duaij highlighted the recent achievements made by the BPC through its active presence in all different sporting forums and its ability to increase its contribution in sports, including winning the bid for the Kingdom of Bahrain to host the Asian Youth Paralympic Games, which will be held in December 2021. He stressed the importance of preparing all resources including the infrastructure, organizing committee and technical staff for this event to ensure success. The BPC Chairman also emphasized the importance of training and supporting our para athletes in all sports activities towards achieving and exceeding their desired goals.
The Secretary-General of the BPC, Mr. Ali Al-Majed, stated that the Committee is focusing its efforts on implementing its strategic plan, through cooperating and coordinating with all governmental bodies and the private sector that are essential partners in achieving the vision and goals of the Bahraini Paralympic Committee within the policies of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and the International Paralympic Committee. The BPC is working towards overcoming all obstacles facing Para athletes to fulfill their needs and goals.
During the meeting, the minutes of the previous meeting were approved and the agenda for the coming period was discussed, which included events and partnerships in the current year 2020, most notably the review of the strategic plan of the committee for the period 2019-2020 and the presentation of updated and special reports of the most important upcoming activities and programs.
